Can you share a bit about your journey in fitness and wellness?

I’ve always enjoyed working out, but discovering Pilates truly opened up a new world for me. While living in China, I decided at age 55 that I needed to better understand its benefits for my own health. I earned my certification there and never looked back. Most recent in 2020 I attended an online Yoga class and learned to appreciate the differences yet the similar focus to Pilates.  Today, I love integrating yoga into my classes for the centering, stretching, and calming it brings.

 

How did you first discover B-BOARD®, and what inspired you to teach it?

I discovered B-BOARD® at the SCW Fitness Convention in Dallas about 3 years ago. Our team decided to give it a try in the pool and we absolutely loved the challenge (it was AQUA STAND UP®). Charlotte Dilworth, the owner of Kingsland Health and Fitness Center here in Kingsland, Texas, saw the potential and invested in this fresh approach to yoga and high-intensity training. We got certified, and it’s been a hit with our members ever since!

 

What does “holistic B-BOARD®” mean to you, and how is it different from other classes?

To me, “holistic B-BOARD®” means a full-body, mind-centered workout that goes beyond traditional routines. The board naturally challenges balance, but the gentle rocking also brings awareness to the breath. It adds a deeper connection between movement and mindfulness; something you don’t get on solid ground.

 

How would you describe your teaching style to someone new to B-BOARD®?

I always begin by helping new students get comfortable. We start slow, just sitting, standing, and stepping on and off the board safely. I encourage them to explore and play a little, holding onto a bar until they can build confidence before we dive deeper into movements.

 

What benefits do your students notice from the holistic approach—physically and mentally; on the B-BOARD®?

Physically, they gain better balance and core strength, especially when doing movements like tree pose or triangle on an unstable surface. Mentally, the focus required, helps them stay present. The breath becomes a guide, and with every session, they become more in tune with their bodies.

 

Can you share a memorable moment or success story from your B-BOARD® classes?

One of the most memorable moments was watching a woman, well in her 80’s, absolutely rock the Breathe class. It was inspiring! Many students now land tree and triangle poses on the board with ease and that kind of progress is just so rewarding to witness.

The Breathe B-BOARD® class offers such a unique experience! It challenges my balance and strengthens my core while flowing through Pilates and yoga-inspired moves. I leave every class feeling grounded and strong.

How do you help students of different levels feel confident and engaged?

I love seeing people believe in themselves just by giving it a try. For those who need more stability, I offer alternatives, like flipping the board over for a firmer base. It helps them ease into the movements while still embracing the soft-surface challenge. Progress is personal, and I’m here to support that.

 

What advice would you give to someone trying B-BOARD® for the first time?

Just give it a try and stick with it. The board might feel tricky at first, but that challenge is where the growth begins. You’ll be surprised at what your body can do.

 

Outside of teaching, how do you practice wellness in your own life?

I believe our bodies are designed by God to thrive when given the right care. I embrace a holistic lifestyle, focusing on clean eating, natural essential oils, and sharing these wellness practices with both my family and students. At the end of each class, I incorporate calming oils to enhance relaxation and complete the experience while students are in corpse pose. For me, it’s all about nurturing balance in every area of life.

 

If someone is unsure about joining your B-BOARD® class, what would you say to inspire them to try it?

I’d say: “You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to show up.” Everyone was once a beginner, including myself. B-BOARD® is fun, challenging, and empowering. You might wobble; but you’ll grow stronger, more balanced, and more confident with each class.
